i waited by the phone the whole night.
i didn't sit right by it or stare at it. no. i know that's bad luck. so instead, i sat across the room. i painted my nails. i cleaned out my closet. i even dusted, and i hate dusting. every once in a while i snuck a peek, but no more than a peek. i almost picked it up, but i fought the urge. i thought if i didn't look at it or touch it or think about it, it would ring.
