he remembered those late nights, when they dug deep into each other's souls. he could almost hear her laughter crackling and feel his own lips curling into a grin. he knew by heart her phone number and work schedule and birthday. and he certainly had not forgotten the plans they'd made together: the movies they'd see, the places they'd go, the days and nights they'd spend.

but he was married now. that was a long time ago.

still, he could not help but wonder what his life might have been like had he married her instead.
